This January, I will be joining an organization here in Fayetteville called 99 Balloons on a trip to Jinja, Uganda.
99 Balloons does amazing work in our community with children experiencing disability and their families. They also partner with ministries worldwide to offer training and support. One of these ministries is called Ekisa, which is who our team will be visiting.
You may be wondering, why is Leana going on this trip? Well, the folks at Ekisa were hoping that the 99 Balloons team could bring along a designer, or someone who could add some artwork to their space and make it a bit more beautiful. That will be my job!
I'm so excited about this opportunity and absolutely thrilled to be leading our "design team," (made up of me and two girls named Cassidy and Jordan). We will be creating artwork, painting, and generally refreshing the Ekisa residential care facility to be a more beautiful place for the staff and kids who live there.
The other team members are teachers and therapists who will be working with the children and staff at Ekisa.
Ekisa is an incredible multi-faceted ministry that provides residential care, training, and special education in their community for children experiencing disability and their families. Our team will primarily be working at their residential care facility, where they provide 24-hour care for about 20 children.
WHO: We are a team of seven (1 team leader, 3 designers, 3 therapists).
WHAT: Our team will be supporting Ekisa Ministries through therapy, training and art making.
WHEN: January 6 - 16, 2018
TRIP COST: The trip costs $3150 (I still need about $1500)
